Invislaign Braces
Have you always wanted to show off a bright smile with straight teeth but didn’t want the hassle of a mouthful of metal brackets and wires? At Alencar Family Dentistry in Chesapeake, Virginia, we offer an alternative that can straighten your teeth discreetly.
Nowadays, Invisalign is the most widely preferred teeth straightening treatment in cosmetic dentistry because of its convenience and comfort.
What Does Invisalign Treat?
Invisalign treatment was developed for addressing the following orthodontic problems:
- Spaced Teeth
When there is an unusual growth of the jaw bone, extra space may develop between the teeth. These gaps may create gum problems, cause periodontal pockets, and subsequently lead to periodontal disease.
- Crowded Teeth
When there is not enough space in the mouth, the teeth become crowded. This makes it challenging for all your teeth to fit in properly. If crowded teeth are not corrected, they may cause tooth cavity and plaque build-up and increase the risk of gum disease.
- Crossbite
This condition occurs when the lower and upper jaws are not aligned properly. Crossbites can cause unusual tooth chipping and periodontal disorders leading to bone loss and gum disease.
- Underbite
An underbite is when the lower teeth push outward farther than the front teeth due to irregular growth of the upper jaw and overgrowth of the lower jaw. It can cause painful jaw issues.
- Overbite
Overbite happens when the upper teeth overlap over the lower teeth. The main reasons behind this condition are genetics and bad habits like thumb-sucking. An overbite may result in jaw pain, fractured or chipped front teeth, and gum disease.
What Does the Procedure of Getting Invisalign Entail?
At Alencar Family Dentistry, once you are confirmed as a good candidate for the Invisalign treatment, Dr. Jayme A. Oliveira Filho will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are sent to the Invisalign lab, where the plastic aligners are created for every procedure phase.
Once they are done, Dr. O will give you the aligners together with recommendations on how to wear them to achieve the desired results (20 to 22 hours every day). After this, Dr. O will monitor the treatment phases and their progress and give you new aligners for each phase.
During the treatment, the Invisalign braces will gently and precisely move the teeth to the desired position.
